It's hard not to love a Bollywood award show that hands out gongs for Best Villain or Best Comic Actor, and the Zee Cine Awards did not disappoint with many double wins for actors like Deepika Padukone and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and a Bajirao Mastani and Bajrangi Bhaijaan sweep.
Though you'll have to wait until March 5 for the awkwardly spliced reaction shots and performances that seem to run on forever, the Zee Cine Awards brought out all the stars. Ranveer Singh was doing adorable boyfriend duties, accepting Deepika Padukone's several awards for Best Actress (Jury) for Piku and then the Best Actress (Viewer's Choice) for Bajirao Mastani.

For the latter award, DNA cites an onlooker who said Singh got her on Facetime to say a quick thank you in the middle of her XXX shoot in Toronto! "It’s an incredible honour to win the Best Actress award tonight. Thank you Sanjay, Ranveer and Priyanka for being amazing co-stars and every single person who made this film so special," said Padukone over the phone.

The awards were hosted by Karan Johar and Shahid Kapoor, who appeared together as judges on the dance show Jhalak Reloaded. We bet they've got some witty remarks and antics up their sleeves for the broadcast version.
One of the biggest sweeps of the night was Bajirao Mastani, which garnered ten awards — including Best Choreography, Best Actor (Jury), Best Director and Best Film (Jury). Not too far behind was the populist and unabashedly masala Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which won four awards — including Best Debutante Female for child actor Harshali Malhotra, Best Film (Viewer's Choice) and Best Actor (Viewer's Choice).

With many award bodies coming under fire for giving out awards based on showing up and the murky negotiations that go on behind the scenes, it helps to have a split between the jury prizes and popular prizes. The jury prizes are decided by actors, critics and industry veterans. The popular accolades are chosen by the audience — hence an easy win for Salman Khan.
We were really happy that some of the awards went to deserving actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who won Best Villain for Badlapur and Best Actor in a Comic Role for Bajrangi Bhaijaan. He's had an amazing year in 2015, and it's fitting that he got a double win for two of his most indelible performances.
Thankfully, wiser sense also prevailed in the debutante category when Bhumi Pednekar and Vicky Kaushal won for their amazing work in Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Masaan instead of the usual Hero pair, Athiya Shetty and Sooraj Pancholi, who've usurped a lot of awards. There was also more wins for Masaan when Shweta Tripathi and Sanjay Mishra won for Best Supporting Actress and Actor.
As with all the award shows, there were performances by Sonakshi Sinha, the bromantic duo Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh — who danced in heels to promote the "High Heels" song in Ki & Ka — and Sushant Singh Rajput, who performed a medley in honour of Shah Rukh Khan.
