You Need To Know About These 6 Style Trends From #MetGala2016

Showbiz May 03, 2016

Missed the red carpet trends from the Met Gala last night? We've got you covered!

The Met Gala is the biggest red carpet event of the year — and it also happens to be my favourite. Guests are not only required to look great but they also have to adhere to a theme by balancing the annual theme and the pressure to look fashionable.

I must admit: once I heard that the theme was going to be "Manus x Machina," I knew I'd be underwhelmed with the renditions.

Zayn Malik got an A for effort, but Gigi and Bella Hadid missed the mark by playing it too safe.

While others were downright inappropriate — cough, Madonna, cough…

Honourable mention goes to Claire Danes, who wore a gorgeous Zac Posen fibre-optic dress — a truly unique perspective on fashion in an age of technology.

While it seems my invite to the Met Gala got lost in the mail yet again, there's no need to fret. I'll still be rounding up six key trends that we saw on the Met Gala red carpet last night.

1. Edgy Makeup

We saw a lot of edgy, dark makeup on the red carpet this year, ranging from heavy, dark smokey eyes to dramatic vampy lips.

2. Sleek Hair

Whether it was a simple sleek straight hairdo or a sleek pony, one thing's for sure. Soft waves are making an exit and sleek hair is making a comeback.

3. Pantsuits

We're seeing more and more women opt for a spin on the classic pantsuit for red carpet attire. This year's Met Gala featured an abundance of fabulous pantsuits!

4. Balmain, Balmain, Balmain

With silver details and structured silhouettes, Balmain was a top — albeit safe — choice to fashionably incorporate the theme. As a result, it was in full effect this Met Gala.

5. Chunky Heels

An unprecedented trend on the red carpet at this year's Met Gala was chunky heels. Inspired by the classic military boot, we saw plenty of shoe statements.

6. Cutouts

To no one's surprise, celebrities showcased their perfectly chiselled bodies in cutout dresses.
