The first signs of hip hop and rap in the South Asian music scene are credited to Baba Sehgal, who was responsible for several hit albums in the '90s.
After Baba Sehgal, it's names like Apache Indian, Bally Sagoo, Rishi Rich and Raghav went on to lay a solid foundation for hip hop and rap music with South Asian flavour.

Over the years, a new wave of hip hop and rap talent has spoken to a wider audience, and some of this music is featured in popular Bollywood movies as well.
