Today's world has a constantly jet-setting pace to it, so it comes as no surprise that world travel and exploration have become a very popular trend amongst people from all walks of life.
Since places of religious worship tend to be the most elegant and serene, they are among the must-see locations because of the tranquil feeling they provide with their graceful panorama.
We've narrowed down six of our favourite, most intriguing religious spots below:
1. Mecca
The holy city of Mecca (Makkah) is located in Saudi Arabia and is the epicentre of Islamic faith. People from all over the world come here to complete their Hajj or journey of faith.
At the centre of the beautiful Mosque lies the Ka'bah, towards which people conduct their prayers. It is the Ka'bah that represents the first manifestation of the religion of Islam.
During dark hours, the mosque is lit up superbly, and all one can hear are the echoes of many prayers in unison, a sound that is soothing to the soul, regardless of one's faith.

2. Haridwar
Haridwar, meaning ‘Gateway to God’, is located in India's Uttarakhand region. Being the first place that the Ganges river flows through as it makes its descent from Himalayas has made Haridwar a much sought-after destination for tourists from all over the world.
The region has a fairly temperate climate. One of the best-known religious festivals that takes place in Haridwar is the ‘Kumbh Mela’, celebrated only once every dozen years.
Apart from being a spiritual haven, Haridwar is laden with shopping and a variety of Wildlife sanctuaries.

3. The Pantheon
Built to pay homage to the Gods and Goddesses of the Paganism that thrived in Ancient Rome, the Pantheon is one of the most well-known pieces of architecture in the world today. It was built during the reign of Emperor Hadrian.
Built in the same wondrous and grand style that Rome is infamous for, the Pantheon is a must-see for all art and history lovers.

4. The Vatican City
The Vatican City is actually its own state, located within the bustling and dusty city of Rome, Italy.
The Vatican is best known for being home to the Pope who is believed to be God's representative on earth for those who follow the Catholic faith.
The sheer immensity of being in a place that holds so much importance for those who follow the faith is enough to intrigue many tourists, not to mention the classical architecture that has detail down to a science.

5. Jerusalem
As a holy site for disciples of both Jewish and Christian faiths alike, Jerusalem is absolutely drenched in history.
Jerusalem has been the site of countless archaeological digs which carries its rich cultural history forward. Between the old city and the new city, Jerusalem offers everything from history and art to shopping and dining.

6. Stonehenge
Built by the ancient Druid people that inhabited the area at one time, Stonehenge is a marvel and one of the best attractions in Britain. Although seemingly a mere formation of rocks, Stonehenge is much more.
The core principle of Druidry is respect and veneration of nature, and as such it often involves participation in the environmental movement.
The mystery behind the monumental structure remains unsolved. Perhaps you can come up with some of your own theories after you visit this magical landmark.
