This year marked the debut of Indian Avataars on foreign soil. India's Comic Con was in attendance at the New York Comic Con 2013 held last week, which took place October 10-13th.
Established in India in 2011, Comic Con India was formed and established in Delhi by young Delhi-ites at their homes who wanted to find an effective and affordable way to enjoy a comic convention.
Comic Con India has now grown and evolved spreading its presence across India, celebrating its success in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai. While it began as a way to enjoy comics collectively, it is also expanding its popular culture with merchandise, movies, television shows, food etc. Not only is its mission to bring unique events to India, it also acts as a platform to launch brands and bring together excited and passionate fans from across the country and all age groups.
During the four day event, Comic Con India shared with the fans India’s biggest Indian comic publisher ‘Amar Chitra Katha’ and Comics & Graphic Novels by Campfire Publishing.
In addition, Comic Con India also brought products and merchandise from their own publishing house, Pop Culture Publishing. Comic Con was well received and favoured by the New York audiences who showered them with compliments and were drawn to their memorable and unique merchandize and unforgettable superhero characters.
Jatin Varma, Founder of Comic India, said, “Our participation at the New York Comic Con 2013 was highly successful. All of us, including our partners Amar Chitra Katha and Campfire Graphic Novels got an amazing response from the comic enthusiasts who attended the convention.
A lot of our books and merchandise was sold out. The love and affection we received at NYCC 2013 shows that Indian comics and merchandise are not only accepted but liked by international audiences as well. We plan to participate in more such events and continue to showcase Indian Comics.”
Starting with events in December this year, Comic Con India is set to hit the city of dreams 'Mumbai' with Mumbai Film & Comic Convention on December 21-22nd , followed by 4th Indian Annual Comic Convention in Delhi in February 2014. May 2014 with see the Bangalore convention and then finally ending next year with Comic Con Express in October 2014.
If you are going to be in India and have an adoration for comics such as Chacha Chaudry and Phantom, be sure to join them and sign up to attend some unforgettable events.
