Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is all set to release today. I sat down with Imran Khan to chat about his movie, work and life.
Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is is produced by Karan Johar and directed by Punit Malhotra. This is the second time around the director-producer-actor team has come together to work after the movie I Hate Love Storys.
Swati Bhatt Vyas : So, tell us about your character in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein?
Imran Khan: Sriram is very similar in a lot of ways to my character in I Hate Love Storys. He is selfish and self-involved. He only cares about having fun and hooking up with girls. He doesn't’t have a lot of faith. The film is all about how this shallow guy falls for a girl and gets a wake-up call for maturity.

SBV: Do you think your character in the movie reflects today’s youth?
IK: I think he is a very believable character. I’m sure a lot of people will relate to him. There’s someone in each of our lives who’s like that.
SBV: You have played a lot of roles which are simple, sort of boy-next-door? Is this a conscious attempt?
IK: The typical ‘hero’ characters never attract me. I feel more drawn towards relatable, human characters, guys who could easily be me or someone’s boyfriend, friend or brother.
SBV: What do you look for when you read a script?
IK: For me, it’s very simple. I read the script and ask myself just one question. Will I buy a ticket to watch this film? If I feel that I would, I do it. That’s the only way to go about it because there are no guarantees where audience response is concerned. You don’t know what the audience will like or dislike. All you can sense is if you’ll watch it or not.
SBV: It’s your second movie working with Kareena Kapoor Khan. How was your experience working with her?
IK: It was a lot easier. You know this is the first time I’ve repeated a co-star. We were aware of each other’s style and way of working. I obviously had a lot of fun on the sets of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu with Bebo. This time we were in sync from day one. Our chemistry was bang on as we had worked together before.
SBV: Are you finally able to woo her in this movie?
IK: Yeah, it was a lot better this time.
SBV: The songs of the movie are upbeat and have a desi touch to them. What do you feel about the lyrics and music of the film?
IK: Every time that Vishal and Shekhar have given music for my films – Break Ke Baad and now here again – they’ve given me an album which is so remarkable and which I am very proud of. I feel happy working with them.
Honestly, I also have to give a lot of credit to Punit Malhotra, our director. He has a very good music sense and is able to provide the guidance a director gives to the music directors.
SBV: Which is your favourite track in the movie?
IK: My favourite is Dhat teri ki. It has a very fresh sound.
SBV: How was your experience of shooting in a village?
IK: We shot in five different villages and made it look like one. It was a tough shoot as it was shot at the peak of summer in May and June. The temperature was 45degrees. It was a really rough time. Apart from that it was fun as we’ve worked with the same team before.
SBV: You went to LA to pursue filmmaking, is there any plans to direct a movie in the near future?
IK: Near future, NO. It’s my dream to direct a film eventually as that’s what I’m trained for. But right now, I’m having a lot of fun with my acting career.
