The 2014 Winter Olympics are a little over two months away, and while you might not be up to competing on that level, gear up for the gold with your own selection of winter sports!
Ice Skating
Whether you’re the queen of triple axles or your version of hockey is just body-checking on ice, skating is a fun-filled way to help an endless winter fly by. While falling down might not seem too fun, the sensation of soaring is a great pick-me up! Whatever your preference, be it figure skating, speed skating or ice hockey, ice skating is also a great social activity.
Skate side by side and hold hands as a couple, or make new friends at a skating meet-up. Are you ready to take your crossovers to the next level? Take an adult skating class and expand your athletic horizons.
Skiing
Hit the slopes for some winter-time fun in the sun, or work off the holiday feast with some cross-country exercise. Either way, skiing is a great activity to do independently or with friends. Maybe this year is the perfect time to explore winter wonderlands at one of the hundreds of great ski resorts across the world.
From the gentle rolling hills and ski lessons for beginners to advance alpine trails for the more experienced, most places have the ability to tailor to everyone’s preferences.
Can’t tell a ski from a sundial? Cozy up at the lodge with a cup of cocoa and enjoy the social scene. From Zurich to Colorado, ski resorts are the “it” place to be during the winter season. Celebrity-watch with friends, or curl up with cocoa and a good book. There’s nothing like enjoying the company of friends and loved ones, toasty and warm by the fire.
Snowboarding
In your heart of hearts, you know you’re the king of the hill when it comes to boarding, or you wish you were. You’d give Tony Hawk a run for his money if the California sun was your thing, but you’re really all about shredding’ the gnar- uh, snowboarding. Instead, maybe you’ll challenge Shaun White to race…if you can keep your balance this time.

Curling
The last time you played shuffleboard you were on a cruise with your grandparents, and found the whole experience to be a bit boring. But curling is different! They’re playing on ice, with stones and brooms. Ok, that looks fun. Plus, all that lunging is a great way to get toned!
Ice Fishing
Maybe strenuous exercise isn’t your thing and you really just want an excuse to connect with mother-nature, even if she seems a little frigid these days.
Stock up on beer, soup, and other delicious food to make the most of your weekend. Even if fishing isn’t the top of the romance list, cuddling for warmth in a small cabin is a sure way to keep it intimate.
Whether you’re in it for the solitary meditation or you and the guys want a new way to shoot the breeze, you’ll come home with a good story. Your friends are sure to believe you about the size of the fish that got away this time!
Rather than sitting at home and waiting for the winter season to pass by, take advantage of what the snow has to offer.
