Have you ever wondered what speed dating is like? Or questioned why anyone would try the process of meeting potential partners through a conveyor belt of organized five minute meetings? If so this blog is for you.
Speed Dating is the process of meeting potential matches through a guided event whereby a host provides you with three-five minutes to chat with an individual.
Participants can use this time to assess the spark and likeability towards the person and move on to the next potential partner. With today’s options of social media matchmaking, speed dating has become a trend to meeting that future love in person.
Reasons to give Speed Dating a shot
If you are single and are on the fence about putting yourself out there, check out some of my reasons below:
1. You meet interesting people
This is essentially the best part about speed dating. Regardless of the outcome, you will get the opportunity to meet people who are either potential partners or people you make connections with.
2. It is efficient and effective
With busy lives and the rampant use of technology, a speed dating event allows today’s busy individuals to use their time efficiently and effectively. Depending on the speed dating company, you can meet as many as 25 people in one night.
The most effective is meeting about 8 – 12 potential matches in one night which allows for time to meet and mingle in a meaningful way. It has been proven that with increased number of people at a speed dating event the likelihood of matches decrease.
3. You learn about what you want
This is the quickest way to figure out what turns you on or off when meeting a man or woman for the first time. In a few minutes, a person can trigger your curiosity to learn more about them and you find yourself itching for that second date.
So take note of your triggers the next time you check out a speed dating event as they are very telling of what you are into, when it comes to your unique selections.
Myths about Speed Dating
South Asians have also been jumping on the bandwagon multiple speed dating sites which are geared towards catering to them and offer speed dating methods.
1. Always attend in a group
Women who tend to try new dating options more readily, travel in groups of two, three or four for morale support.
I encourage women to attend a speed dating event even if their friends cannot make it. If the right speed dating company is chosen, it really is like an intimate party that allows for easy and focused mingling and conversation.
2. It is not romantic
Other women have this notion that meeting a man through a speed dating event is simply not romantic. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Imagine going to a social gathering and someone has caught your attention and this time you have confirmation that the feeling is mutual.
Sparks can only be truly seen and tested if two people meet in person and speed dating is simply a perfect and clear way to think about a second date and see where it may lead.
3. Other people may judge me, I should not go.
Then there are those few women who tend to stall in their decision to try new things because they often worry about what relatives or co-workers may think.
My advice, don’t tell!
Not everyone will understand your decision, especially those from a different and older generation who have been set up the traditional way. Anyone who truly loves and cares for you will simply want you to be happy. How you find your life partner at this stage is simply no one’s business.
So for all the singletons out there, give speed dating a try. You never know who you may meet tomorrow!
