What makes it difficult for men and women to communicate effectively? One would think that we are two completely different species from two different planets. The classic book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus by John Gray can explain this in a comical and real way.
Simply put our brains are just wired differently. Women’s brains have a realm of emotions that span the whole brain while feelings and emotions are compartmentalized to one part of a man’s brain.
Don’t get me wrong, men can be quite emotional but they just have more of an ability to shut this part of them down than women do. Think all of our lives would be much simpler if we could simply accept what is.
What do I mean by this? Well, it is a fact that the human body and psyche are very different for a man and woman. This is especially apparent in how the two sexes experience conflict between each other. Ah the classic battle of the sexes. Will it ever end? Likely not, especially if we choose to ignore the blatant truth about each other’s reality.
How many times are we going to experience this scenario where a man looks at an expressive woman like she is completely nuts and the woman views the man as uncaring and abandoning.
We are however not being fair to each other’s natural state and with more understanding there is certainly a level of peace we can achieve within our lives and our interactions with our gender counterparts.
Think about the time and process we go through when there is a disagreement with the opposite sex.
I’m sure we can all picture our instinctual reaction to either retreat, react out of anger, cry or better yet suck up the pain to avoid conflict.
What is the right thing to do? What is the wrong reaction? Well, get this….there is technically no right or wrong when it comes to your instinctual reaction within.
It is just important to take the time to understand why that particular reaction was your first “go to” place emotionally and mentally. It is what you do with this self-awareness that determines your future peace and happiness.
In addition, with a deeper perspective of your counterpart’s natural state and history of his or her experiences in life, you will see a pattern to their actions and reactions and be more compassionate as to why the disagreement/ conflict occurred the way it did.
And once you have reached that state of openness, it is truly then that both parties can have a productive conversation to close the loop on an argument so your relationship can advance to a better state.
So are we from two different worlds? At times it makes life a lot simpler to think so. Accepting that males will really only truly understand each other better than they understand females might just be a reality. Females may just need to accept that only another girlfriend can truly relate to the full realm of emotions they feel in turmoil.
Again there is no right or wrong with your current perspective and go easy on yourself when you grapple with these questions about the opposite sex for in life; we are all still figuring it out.
