Did you know home cleaners are not only expensive but can be harmful to the environment too? Chemicals in many of the store brands raise health concerns for the family and environmental pollution that is caused during their manufacturing process. According to a study done in the United States, 1 in 3 people suffer from diseases such as allergies, asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis (US National Center for Health Statistics). By creating your own green and environmentally healthy cleaning products, you are not only creating a thrift, manageable budget, you're also reducing synthetic chemicals in the atmosphere too.
Create your own DIY products with items that are already in your pantry. The basic ingredients you will need to clean will be white vinegar, baking soda, lemons and/or lemon juice, salt, olive oil, Ivory bar soap, liquid dish washing soap, washing soda, borax, and essential oils (lemon, lemon grass, and eucalyptus).
All Purpose Cleaner
White Vinegar
Water
Drops of Lemon Juice
Put equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Add drops of lemon juice to remove the smell. Don’t worry if you don’t have lemon, the smell from the vinegar will dissipate away. By adding vinegar and lemon juice, you will create a deodorizing effect. You can use the combination of vinegar and lemon juice to clean kitchen utensils after cooking fish and garlic. Lemons are also great for killing bacteria and mold. After you are done with lemons, you can grind lemon grind and use it in the garbage disposal to clean it out and remove all the lingering smells from the kitchen.
Carpet Stain Remover
Baking soda
Salt
White Vinegar
Mix equal parts of baking soda, salt, and white vinegar. Take these ingredients and make them into a paste and apply it to the stain. Let it dry and then vacuum the cleaning product.
Bathroom Cleaner
¾ cup baking soda
Juice from ½ lemon
3 tablespoons salt
3 tablespoons liquid dish washing soap
½ cup vinegar
10 drops essential oils
Mix all ingredients and make it into a paste. Use scrub brush or sponge and apply the paste to the bathtub, shower walls, and sinks. Make sure to test the paste so that the surface is protected and in case you need to reduce salt to prevent erosion. If so, remove or reduce salt. After you are done, rinse well and then use a wet and dry rag or old towel to clean the surface.
Drain Cleaner
Baking soda
White Vinegar
Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain and then followed by a half cup of vinegar. Let it fizz and then flush it with hot water.
Furniture Polish
¾ cup olive oil
Juice from ¼ lemon
1 tablespoon vinegar
3-4 drops lemon essential oil (optional)
Dampen rag and squeeze out all the moisture. Dip the damp rag into the furniture polish and wipe the surface of the furniture. Buff off with an old towel. You can use this product for the stainless steel products.
