It’s that time of the year when turn off your lights in solidarity and stand up for Mother Earth.
Today, March 29, from 8.30 – 9.30pm local time the world will come together for Earth Hour Day.
We are already witnessing the effects of climate change all over the world. Melting glaciers, floods, droughts, and other disasters are causing enough destruction to leave nothing for the generations to come.
The greenhouse gases emitted from our everyday use resources are changing the climate for worse and making it more difficult for both people and nature to adapt.
With the world warming up faster than any of us ever imagined, nations all over the world are participating.
Earth hour is an opportunity for the world to come together for one single cause and unite in an attempt to make the world a better place to live in.
In 2007, over 2 million people participated in the very first Earth Hour event which took place in Sydney, Australia and 5 million Indians across 56 cities showed their support by switching off non-essential lights and saving approximately 1,000 MW of power in one hour. The following year, more than 35 countries and 50 million people participated. Year after year, participation grew.
More than 7000 cities in 150 countries are expected to participate in Earth Hour 2014 with even a superhero taking part. Yes, Spiderman is helping save the planet.

When we talk and tweet at the same time, spreading a word about this initiative is just what we need to save our future.
Celebrities including Jamie Fox, Andrew Garfiled, Emma Stone , Jason Priestley and William Shatner have uploaded videos to share what they’ll be thinking about during Earth Hour, including their vision for future where climate change is no longer a threat.
You can join the conversation by uploading your video or tweet about your #momentofdarkness or pledge support towards climate change action at wwf.ca/earthhour.
It’s just an hour of our time to join millions of people around the globe and make a difference in the world we live in. Imagine a world where you can breathe in fresh natural unadulterated air than live the toxic, polluted environment that we do today.
If an hour can make a difference, then its time to put aside everything and chip in.
We, at Anokhi, are pledging for our #momentofdarkness, are you?
