Kate Middleton dazzled onlookers at a dinner for London’s National Portrait Gallery on Feb. 11, Tuesday night, with a diamond necklace borrowed from the Queen.
The Duchess of Cambridge was wearing a dark Jenny Packham dress, but it was the Cartier necklace gifted to Queen Elizabeth II that had tongues wagging. It was gifted to Elizabeth in 1947, when she was still a princess, by the Nizam of Hyderabad for her wedding to Prince Philip.
The Nizam’s gift included a diamond tiara and matching necklace, whose design was based on English roses. The tiara had three floral brooches which could be detached and used separately as brooches.

As reported in Mirror.co.uk the Duchess said, “I just wanted to say how delighted I am to be here this evening to celebrate the fantastic work of the National Portrait Gallery,” Duchess Kate said. “The Gallery’s achievements are exceptional. They hold the most extensive collection of portraits in the world, and their unique and brilliant exhibitions never fail to inspire us all. …
“I simply could not be more proud to be its patron.”
Kate’s husband, Prince William, was not present at the gala, but several celebrities were, including actress Elizabeth Hurley, musician Bryan Adams, actor Alan Rickman and artist Grayson Perry.
