With a sole purpose of providing funds to charitable organizations and activities directed at educational opportunities for children in Pakistan, The Citizens Foundation (TCF) Canada is organizing The Citizen Foundation Gala Fundraiser on April 13, 2014 at the Apollo Convention Centre, Mississauga.
Launched in 2005, TCF Canada was founded by Ms. Najma Shamsi, Ms. Saadia Awan and Mr. Shahzad Alam. With a vision to remove the barriers of gender, class and privilege in Pakistan, TCF strives for a better future by providing quality education and an improved standard of life.
In Pakistan, the figures speak for themselves. Out of 173 million Pakistanis, 92 million adults at the of age 15 years and above (58%) are illiterate. 47% of all male adults of age 15 years and above are illiterate whereas for females the percentage is as high as 72%. 3 out of every 10 children aged 5-9 years in Pakistan do not go to school. Government schools are poor with 10.9% of them without a proper building, 37.7% without a boundary wall, 33.9% without water, 59.6% without electricity as well as the frequent absenteeism of teachers. Government expenditure on education is only 2.1% of the GDP.

Regardless of religion or ethnicity, TCF aims to provide quality education to girls and boys residing in the country’s most impoverished communities. To empower women across Pakistan by offering them safe employment opportunities for a chance to elevate their quality of live and bring effective changes in the communities they reside in.
TCF has the largest network of 1,000 secular schools nationwide assisting over 145,000 youth attain quality education (with a gender balanced ratio close to 50% female students). It also boasts the creation of 10,500 jobs, out of which 6,700 are an all-female faculty.
As TCF reaches an impressive 1000 schools milestone, they are embarking on a fundraising gala to celebrate the efforts of all those who share in the vision of transforming the lives of women and children who deserve an equal chance for a better future.
