The stars of the upcoming Bollywood comedy Besharam took New York City by storm last week, at a press conference for the film’s release which was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Consulate General of India.
The 'First Family of Bollywood' was the star of the event which also celebrated 100 years of Indian cinema, with Sanjeev Lamba, CEO of Besharam’s distributor Reliance Entertainment, providing insight into the current state of Bollywood in relation to Hollywood and the international movie marketplace.

Lead actor Ranbir Kapoor, the fastest-rising star in Indian cinema today, was front and center and joined by his legendary parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor who also star in the film. Besharam marks the first motion picture which the three popular actors from two generations star in together. “It’s only fitting because Ranbir is a rising superstar, his parents have made an immeasurable contribution to the industry, and it’s the first time they’ve acted with him,” said Lamba.
Joining the Kapoors was actress Pallavi Sharda and producer Himanshu Mehra. Reliance releases Besharam in theaters worldwide on Wednesday, October 2, in what will be one of the largest global releases ever for a Hindi film including an unprecedented 200 theaters across North America.
Ranbir, who studied acting in New York at the School of Visual Arts and the prestigious Lee Strasberg Institute, was overjoyed to be back in one of his favorite cities in the world. “Besharam means ‘shameless', but it’s usually used to mean a negative attribute. But we’re trying to show it as a positive. It’s not embarrassing people, but being shameless in your heart–not listening to society’s dos and don’ts, but following your heart and doing what you think is right. Being patient with your heart. That’s the attitude of my character," said Ranbir.
For Besharam’s opening titletrack dance number, Ranbir also copied his father’s moves—and costume—from the 'Om Shanti Om' hit from Rishi’s 1980 masala film Karz. He also danced with his parents inBesharam’s 'Chal Hand Uthake Nachche.'
Consul General of India Dnyaneshwar Mulay introduced the film team and highlighted the contributions that the Kapoors have made during 100 years of Indian cinema.
Synopsis:
