After Sridevi’s latest success in Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish, the Bollywood legend and timeless beauty has been approached to star alongside one of Hollywood's most highly acclaimed actresses, multi-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep.
Sources say that the film named Cowboys and Indians will be directed by Amy Redford, the daughter of Robert Redford.
Sridevi’s husband, well-known producer, Boney Kapoor was quoted by Bollywood Hungama saying,
“Yes, Sri has received the script for the project that you've mentioned with Meryl Streep. We're yet to read it. Our daughter Jhanvi will read and approve it first. Only then would Sridevi and I go through it. But yes, in principle the project sounds right as a follow-up to English Vinglish for Sri."
Sri’s manager, Pankaj Kharbanda, also confirmed the news and according to IANS Pankaj has been reported to say,
“Yes, the news is true. And we are happy to have received communication about such a prestigious project, but we are not at the liberty to say anything more at this point of time.”
Sridevi has recently been awarded with the Padma Shri award (one of India’s highest honours) for her contributions to arts, however her dream has been to emulate the Hollywood legend's career.
She told PTI, "I am a big fan of Meryl Streep. I have never planned my career. I chose those films with which I could relate myself. But if given a chance, I would love to do the kind of roles Meryl Streep has done. Things are changing now. Audience, technology and script have become matured. Audience want to watch heroine-oriented films and even writers are writing scripts for women. I am very happy to see this change!”
Sridevi will fly to Chennai on Sept. 24, where she will be participating in 100 years of cinema.
