Throwback: A look At Calgary Stampede 2013!
The city was alive with buzz and energy between July 5 and the 14th with tourists flocking to the city for the unique games. The ten day celebration includes the rodeo, a derby, a grandstand show, a corral, parade, ranch alongside the animals and agriculture that Calgary is so rich of.
The aim of the stampede festivities every year is to celebrate the Western life, the people, the land, it's culture and animals, but its not just limited to this ten day extravaganza.
The stampede also hosts concerts and other events throughout the year, making it one of the biggest attractions in Alberta. This year, despite the heavy rainfall that left the stampede grounds muddy, stampede goers and cowboys came together to enjoy the Calgarian tradition.
Stands were packed and there was no lack of love and support for this years rodeo. Volunteers also created "Hell or High Water" tee shirts which flew off shelves, really showing the support for community and that they we willing to come out despite mother nature. The volunteer run event manages to grow each year and always leaves onlookers waiting for what's in store next year.
The real star of the stampede is the rodeo, split up into six sections, this is where the real action is.
Cowboys come to Calgary every year from all over Canada and the USA, for the chance to walk away with the trophy and a $100,000 cheque. Cowboy after cowboy mounted the bulls or broncs in one of six competitions.
They took to the ground in either the Tie-Down Roping competition, Bareback Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Saddle Bronc Riding, Barrel Racing and of course Bull Riding.

The rodeo winners are, Bradley Bynum, Tie-Down Roping, Caleb Bennett, Bareback Bronc Riding, Wade Sumpter, Steer Wrestling, Cort Scheer, Saddle Bronc, Jean Winters, Barrel Racing and J.B. Mauney, Bull Riding.
But what's a stampede and rodeo without the derby? Cheers and screams rang out between the sounds of hooves running a mile a minute.
After 8 rounds of intense heats, Jason Glass emerged victorious, winning this years GMC Rangeland Derby. His also walked away with one massive cheque and a trophy.
As one of the most exclusive stampedes, the Calgary Stampede only invites the best and the cowboys that making it through Sunday Showdown are automatically invited to next years event.
Through all the weather of this years stampede, fans and tourists alike are already waiting in anticipation of next years event. Hopefully not as wet, the volunteers are hard at work planning and even bigger and better stampede for 2014.
