Bill Cosby Charged With Sexual Assault: What Happens Next?
This is the first time Cosby has been charged with a crime since being accused of sexual misconduct by more than 50 women. This might be the biggest Hollywood celeb trial going into 2016.
The 78-year-old comedian appeared in a Pennsylvania court for three counts of aggravated sexual assault against Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee who considered Cosby to be a mentor. Cosby allegedly drugged Constand back in 2004 and assaulted her as she was "frozen and paralyzed."
Cosby was slow and unsteady in court. The former Cosby Show star offered no comments and was released on $1 million dollar bail.
“Make no mistake: We intend to mount a vigorous defense against this unjustified charge, and we expect that Mr. Cosby will be exonerated by a court of law,” his attorney, Monique Pressley, said in a statement.
If he's convicted, Cosby could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $25 000.

After being charged, Cosby took to social media. Twitter users wasted no time in sharing their feelings.

Cosby's wife, Camille, wasn't present for the hearing. She's always spoken in support of the comedian, so her absence sent a strong message.
“The man I met, and fell in love with, and whom I continue to love, is the man you all knew through his work," Camille wrote in a statement last December after dozens of women accused Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting them. “He is a kind man, a generous man, a funny man, and a wonderful husband, father and friend. He is the man you thought you knew.”

Cosby's wife can't avoid the public for too much longer, however. Camille will go be under oath soon to speak publicly about the allegations. While she claims she had no idea about her husband's alleged affairs, she'll have to respond to the presure of being grilled in court. Camille's deposition is currently scheduled for Wednesday, January 6th.
