Step aside, Harry and Sally! Raj and Simran from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge are the top film couple as voted by the British public and international fans.
The film is a surprising choice, but based on the huge British-Asian population in the United Kingdom, it makes sense that one of the most iconic couples in Indian cinema topped the list. Beating couples like Ilsa and Rick from Casablanca and Celine and Jesse from the Before Sunrise series, DDLJ cements its worldwide appeal by winning the top spot in this list.
We're glad that Raj and Simran didn't lose to Bella and Edward from the Twilight series, which shows us that even virginal vampires are part of cinematic history.

The film was also a canny marketing tool this summer with the release of Dilwale last Friday, which aims to recapture that DDLJ charm. But let's be real. Do we actually think Rohit Shetty could ever recreate that classic alongside blowing up cars and bad comedy tracks? The original was so iconic because it had the trailblazing song "Tujhe Dekha To," filmed in the mustard fields of the Punjab, an examination of diasporic Indians living abroad. The young couple at the centre signified the new generation of NRIs.
On the TV side, Outlander's Jamie and Claire topped the BFI list, proving that streaming platforms like Amazon Prime rule the roost in awards and the public imagination. The eternal "will they, won't they" saga that typifies most TV couples was apparent in the other choices, which included The X Files’ Mulder and Scully, Doctor Who’s Doctor and Rose, Gossip Girl’s Chuck and Blair and The Office’s Tim and Dawn.

Gay couples were also included in the TV top 10, with Torchwood's Captain Jack and Ianto and Glee's Kurt and Blaine making the list. The list included the heartbreaking couple Ennis and Jack from Brokeback Mountain, which was a very deserving choice. We have to say this list included some of our favourites along with our ultimate Bollywood choice.
