Animal Planet is commemorating the 68th year of India's independence by celebrating the country's vast natural diversity through a special programming lineup titled Yeh Mera India.
The TV shows airing throughout the month-long nightly programming event take viewers on an exotic journey across the country, showcasing the Himalayan Mountains, the River Ganges, and other less-explored areas in the North East, and rare species of animals, such as the lion-tailed macaque, goonch fish, dholes and gharials.
Rahul Johri, a general manager for Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said, “Yeh Mera India brings you closer to the amazing breadth of natural wonders India has to offer and the splendid wildlife that thrives in it. The anthem amplifies the rich sounds of the flora and fauna from this extraordinary country.”
Animal Planet has also launched an anthem combining spectacular images of wildlife and thematic lyrics. The song was composed by Bollywood music directors Salim and Sulaiman Merchant and sung in Hindi, Bangla and Tamil by Salim Merchant, Monali Thakur and Neeti Mohan.
Composer Merchant said, "The Yeh Mera India anthem epitomizes the diversity and richness of fascinating regions in India. I believe the anthem would bring viewers closer to the natural world."
Nature and animal lovers alike will enjoy the programming
Popular singer and actor Monali Thakur added, “Animal Planet’s Yeh Mera India puts the spotlight on different parts of India, exploring the heart, mind and soul of the country. I am excited to be a part of the celebration and rediscover my own country.”
Popular Bollywood singer Neeti Mohan also speaks highly of the project, sating, “I love animals and I'm proud to be associated with Animal Planet. Yeh Mera India inspires viewers to live in harmony with the nature.”
The lineup for Yeh Mera India includes programs such as Wildest India, Odisha's Wetlands, Nagarahole – Tales Creatures Of The Great Rains, Ladakh: Desert In The Skies, Magic Tree Of Assam, In Search Of The King Cobra and many more.
