Tips and Tricks to have your own little paradise in the concrete jungle.
Gardens and backyard are beautiful addition to any home. They brighten the area surrounding the house, add color and contrast to the home, as well as grow beautiful flowers, fruits, and vegetables during the spring and summer time.
By building a container garden, those of us who are not homeowners or live in apartments can also have our own garden that not only adds aesthetic value to our homes but also give us a bounty of fruits and vegetables, which we can use in our healthy daily diet.
We can use repurposed and reused old containers, which we may have lying around in our apartments and make them into our small gardens that will bring color and life to the space.
You can use old buckets, pails, and even seashells that you may have collected on your trip to the beach. Not only are do they make practical containers, but also these containers add colors to the apartment with a modern touch.
Have old basket cases lying from Easter around at home? Baskets come in all types of shapes and sizes. By taking simple steps, you can make these wooden baskets last longer – all you need is to treat them with a coat of varnish or polyurethane. You can also use line the baskets with plastics or even press-n-seal wrap that will stick to the basket.
You can use old cases that are lying around in the home and fill them with soil. Not only are reusing cases that take up space in the closets, but also they provide enough space for your flowers that will add a unique touch to your apartments especially if you have a balcony in your apartment.
When you are planting plants in the containers, you should consider the height of the plants. In the back, you should plant the larger ones in the pots and the low-growers in the front of the containers. Make sure you choose the plants depending on how much sunlight your apartment receives. If you have lots of windows and get lots of sunlight, make sure that you choose plants that are able to tolerate heat during the spring and summer. Using good soil will also benefit your garden, which you can mix with fertilizers.
Before you begin planting your container garden, make sure you research about the best plants that suit the environment. Keep an open mind to experiment with different types of plants and vegetables that you can grow in your garden. You can go wild with different types of containers. You should also consider the climate, which you live in so that you don’t have to worry about the plants during the winter season. Bonsai, herbs, vegetables, decorative flowers, and cactuses are great ideas that use you keep near the windows.
Not only will you have a garden in your apartment, but also this type of gardening prevents soil-borne diseases, no weed problems, and more control over moisture, sunlight, and temperature!
Enjoy, experiment, and go wild with your own garden!
