Top 5 Reasons Why We Think Taylor Swift Is The Most Powerful Woman On The Planet
Entertainment Jun 23, 2015
Love her or hate her, there's no doubting that Taylor Swift is an epic force to be reckoned with.

She posted an open letter on her Tumblr page calling out Apple’s practice of not paying royalties during its new music service's initial three-month free-trial period that it's offering to listeners. Not interested in royalties herself, Taylor stood up for indie bands and other emerging artists who may not be able to afford offering their music for streaming without proper compensation. Ed Cue from Apple tweeted news of a reversal of the policy.
Within 24 hours of that posting, Apple reversed its no-royalty policy.

Apple: 0
How's 'dem apples? (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
2. She’s a social media tour de force.
When I typed in “Taylor Swift’s powerful social media campaign,” I got 14.9 million Google search results. Everyone — I mean everyone — from Forbes to The Huffington Post noted Taylor's social media prowess. And for good reason. She’s incredibly savvy when it comes to her social media outreach, as she's not only posting and retweeting but also actively engaging directly with her audience, sending them messages, answering their questions, even having her team do a little covert work and surprising her select fans with specially delivered gifts. So, yeah, 14.9 million? That makes sense.
3. She’s all about empowerment.

Cutting through the noise of misogyny and spin, Swift keeps it consistent with her ongoing messaging of female empowerment and emotional ownership. With her tunes that range from heart-stirring ballads to cheerleading anthems, she hits all all the right notes and the issues that are the prime focus of today’s young women, including dealing with heartbreak, handling the haters, and the pressures of fitting in. Swift hits the heart of the matter and speaks directly to the hearts of her fans.
4. She breaks records. Lots of records.

Need more evidence on her powerful pop cultural reign? Her earth-shattering album 1989, released last October, made up 22 per cent of all albums sold in the United States from its release date of October 27 through November 2, 2014. So there's that. Not only is she topping the charts and selling tons of albums but she’s also breaking records. There are too many to list here, but most notable is the whopping eight awards she collected this past May at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, making her the most awarded female artist in that award show's history. It was also at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards that the world premiere of her video for her latest single, “Bad Blood,” took place. Featuring a galaxy of superstar BFFs, “Bad Blood” launched on Vevo and collected 20.1 million views in 24 hours, smashing Vevo's historical viewership records.
5. They all want to be her friend.
And speaking of her BFF’s, is it just me or does everyone want to be friends with her? From one award show to the next, it just seems that every celebrity at the podium introducing Swift always starts off their intro with “my good friend.” From Karlie Kloss and Lorde to Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake (and even The Breakfast Club star Molly Ringwald, who at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards declared her desire to be a part of “Swift’s Club”), you can see just how connected she is. In the fickle networking world of music, there has to be some sort of genuine Swift charm that is attracting such star power her way. And let's not forget the pic of her 25th birthday party that she tweeted (above) with Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé and Jay-Z. You know Bey and Jay, right? No big D.
