Pop culture icon and material girl Madonna stirs racial controversy with her latest Instagram post.
In a photo posted to her Instagram account, singer-songwriter Madonna displayed to the world her two adopted children, nine-year-old Mercy James and her brother, David Banda, massaging the singer's sore feet while she lies flat on her back.

To many, the photo may have seemed harmless, but others took offence. Just moments after the photo was posted to Madonna's Instagram account, popular talk show host and gossip queen Wendy Williams reposted the photo to her Facebook page and asked the question: should people take offense to the photo or not?
For those who don’t know, Madonna adopted her two children Mercy and David from Malawi back in 2009 and has been raising them as her own ever since.

Regardless of this fact, some of Madonna’s fans and the general public found it offensive that she would post the pic of them massaging her feet. But there were a host of Black and Latina women who said they found nothing wrong with the photo in response to Wendy Williams’s Facebook post. They flooded Wendy’s comments section in defence of Madonna.

Many of the women even criticized Wendy for posing the question in first place, rejecting the idea that the picture promoted any sense of white superiority and instead insisting that it should be seen as nothing more than a loving mother getting a foot rub from her kids.
This situation is very similar to something Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu faced a few years ago when she posted a photo to Twitter showing two young slum children tying her shoe laces — to which she received strong allegations of child labour.

"I'm not embarrassed about the picture at all, as it was funny to me and still is," Bipasha tweeted on the controversy.
Under fire, Bips hastily deleted the tweet but forgot to erase the picture. It was only later that the photo went missing from her micro-blogging profile.
The actress has written multiple tweets to clear the air on the controversy.
"A pix put for fun got picked up by people as 'child labour' is absolutely unbelievable. Just so that all get it right: neither of the two are children! About the picture, the pair of boots were a different pair so my sister and my friend were helping me and I thought it looked damn funny and took the picture as joke," she tweeted.
She earlier tweeted saying, "Well the people helping me in the picture are my friend and my sister, Who I help often with the same! So am sorry if it hurt anyone's sentiments!."
The lesson to be learned here? Think twice before posting to your Instagram account — whether you are a celebrity or not!
