Humans of New York's Facebook followers are in for an international trip. The 14 million fans of photographer Brandon Stanton’s series will be getting an inside view of the people of Pakistan.
Stanton’s series usually feature portraits of New Yorkers with some meaningful detail, anything from people coming to terms with themselves, struggling students or couples who have been together for years.
This special trip to Pakistan was scheduled for last year, but Stanton had run into some issues obtaining his visa. The trip at the time was a part of the United Nations world tour to spread global stories and bring awareness to the challenges people face are outside of the United States. So this summer, Stanton embarks on something we’re all excited for.
While most of Stanton's fans have been posting warm and encouraging comments on the Facebook page, there have also been some rude and dismissive comments. Some people have gone far enough to call Pakistan “that wretched country" and threatened to give up on being fans of Humans of New York.
It's safe to say that "haters gonna hate," but the positive energy of humanity will always win! There has been a massive amount of praise on Stanton's page and Pakistanis are feeling particularly proud of the cultural interaction taking place thanks to some photo shares on Facebook. There's even a hashtag going around (#HONYCOMESTOPAKISTAN) where people are expressing their pride in being able to have their country showcased for its natural beauty and cultural diversity as opposed to what people see and hear in mainstream media.
Make sure to follow Stanton's page and see where he goes next. Let's all share in the excitement of where he travels and the people he comes across!
