Shah Rukh Khan, famously known as the 'King Khan' of Bollywood, has been declared the second richest actor in the world.
Wealth-X, a leading ultra-high net worth intelligence firm, states, “Khan is estimated to be worth $600 million. Immensely popular around the globe as well as in his home country, India, Khan is also a producer, TV host, co-owner of an Indian cricket club and a philanthropist. He has appeared in more than 50 Bollywood films and is a regular at the annual Cannes Film Festival.”
Khan is the only Indian actor to have made the top 10 list, comprised of both Bollywood and Hollywood actors. He’s surpassed Hollywood giants like Tom Cruise at third spot whose net worth is $480 million, and Johnny Depp at fourth spot with $450 million. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld takes the top spot with an estimated net worth of $820 million.
Khan comes from humble beginnings, leading him to philanthropy work, raising awareness for issues such as AIDS, children’s education and rural health initiatives.
In an interview with Filmfare Magazine, he said, “I’ve seen the worst. My father was dying and we couldn’t afford the expensive injections. My aunt used to send them from London. But if the course was of 20 injections, we managed only eight. So I’ll never know whether he died because we didn’t have the money or he died because he had to. Because I have seen so much poverty, I don’t yearn for money.”
Khan co-owns the Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders and has his own production house called Red Chillies Entertainment. He’s done endorsements for companies such as Nokia, Hyundai and Pepsi. And he has also been recognized by Forbes Middle East as number one in their annual ranking of the top Indian leaders in the world.
