Fans of ‘Game of Thrones’ cheered this past weekend as they watched their most hated character on the show, King Joffrey Baratheon, dying a painful death following poisoning. The role itself was so vile that the actor who played the part, Jack Gleeson, has decided to quit acting. We list here some of the world’s most hated villains in the past few decades, characters we absolutely loved to hate.
The Shining – Jack Torrance
Perhap Jack Nicholson’s best role, the father’s ultimate descent into madness and insanity in a large isolated snow-covered hotel makes for a great horror novel and flick. Tortured by his drinking problem(which led to his son getting hurt) and failure in career, the weak mental strength allows the many evil spirits in the castle-like hotel to control him, eventually leading him to terrorize his wife and son(and the audiences) across the large structure, until he freezes to death in a maze.
Prison Break, T-Bag
A nice combination of racist, rapist, and a pedophile. Does it get any worse than this? The character was played by the talented Robert Knepper.
Psycho, Norman Bates
Anthony Perkins terrorized people with his portrayal of the murderer suffering with a freaky split personality disorder, before special effects and gore came along as a horror genre. The psychological impact of this role is more lasting than any zombie movie ever will.
A Clockwork Orange – Alex DeLarge
The DeLarge character can be easily compared with that of Joffrey Baratheon. Both commit atrocious acts out of sheer pleasure. While people enjoy reading, watching TV as their past time, DeLarge killed and raped people out of boredom. What makes it even more chilling is the fact that this character, played by the amazing Malcolm McDowell, is a cultured, educated man who listen to Beethoven and is well-spoken. He however has no redeeming quality, no horrific incident of his past that made him evil, no quest for revenge. He is evil purely because he can be.
Bambi, The Killer of Bambi’s Mother
Cinematic history’s most beloved cartoon character is perhaps Bambi, and naturally the hunter responsible for her death is one of the most despised. The lack of any reason, any backstory whatsoever for the death makes it that much worse
Chucky, The Title Character
The evil doll haunted children’s dreams for years to come. Possessed by the evil spirit of a serial killer, Chucky the doll goes on to kill people in very gruesome manner, and hypnotizing innocent children to do the same for him.
