HuffPost managing editor Jimmy Soni is moving to India to launch HuffPost India off the ground while national editor Kate Palmer will succeed.
HuffPost’s editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington announced it in a memo to the company on May 28.
In an interview with Capital, editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington said, "We are getting ready to announce our partnership and timeline for HuffPost's launch in India. It has been Jimmy's dream to spearhead the launch in India, where his parents were born and raised, and as India is such a huge and important market for us, I'm delighted that he will be there from the beginning of this effort until the launch."

Palmer, who came to HuffPost in 2012 after serving as managing editor of The Onion, will take over as the new managing editor. Prior to that, Palmer served as Foreign Policy’s deputy managing editor.
Soni, a former chief-of-staff to Huffington, was promoted to the position of managing editor at the age of 26. Previously he was a consultant for McKinsey and a speechwriter for the mayor of Washington, D.C.
Soni was featured in ANOKHI Magazine's 'The ANOKHI List' for 2014 for Excellence. During an Open Chest interview with ANOKHI MEDIA’s CEO Raj Girn, Soni hinted that he just might be the key person spearheading the Indian iteration. Here's what he had to say, “I hope so and I know so because it’s a country that’s obviously close to my heart. And also, I have learnt so much about publishing, having been at HuffPost for three years on the domestic side that I can help us think about how to publish in India in creative ways. I am going to go there for the launch and participate and help out. I am excited to bring HuffPost to India.”
As noted in the memo below, Soni will be returning to New York in a new role that is yet to be decided.
As we are getting close to announcing the launch of HuffPost India, I’m delighted to bring you some related newsroom news. Jimmy Soni will be heading to India to spearhead our launch from New Delhi. This has been a dream of Jimmy’s, as both his parents were born and raised there. And with India such a huge and important market for us, it’s great for HuffPost that Jimmy will be there from the beginning of this effort until the launch. Kate Palmer has done a fantastic job as National Editor, and I’m excited for her to build on her many accomplishments in her new role as Managing Editor. We will be recruiting a new National Editor, and Jimmy will be returning to the newsroom in a new role, the way Nico Pitney left his position as Managing Editor and returned as Head of Product. Please join me in congratulating Kate and wishing Jimmy the best on his passage to India. And since he has been so involved in the growth of Healthy Living, I hope he’ll come back with plenty of meditation, yoga and other Third Metric editorial initiatives!
