Double fists of fury went up in the sky for the Kolkata Knight Riders winning their second trophy during the 2014 IPL finals June 1.
The Riders rode to victory with a dramatic finish – a final score of 200/7 to 199/4 for the Riders against the Kings XI Punjab. Manish Pandey, man of the match, broke through with 94 runs off 50 balls against Punjab.
The Kings XI Punjab made changes to their order; starting their innings slowly in turn threatened their chances with early dismissals for Virender Sehwag having seven runs from 10 balls and George Bailey one from two. Glenn Maxwell and David Miller were pushed down the order, and the results were bitter.
Morné Morkel had four overs and 40 runs, while Sunil Narine made four overs and 46 runs, with one wicket appearing to be in full control during the first few overs, but the power play did not go well for the Punjab's lucky bowling strike was seeming to be not so lucky after all. Bowling wasn’t their strongest feature coming into this final, but inspired by the young Akshar Patel (four overs, 21 runs), Punjab started getting a handle on the match in the middle overs.
The smaller pitch at Bangalore's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium favours batsmen. Glenn Maxwell, scoring 36 from 22, outshined Yusuf Pathan’s power.
Pathan told MSN he was very happy with the win, and added, "I shouldn't have played that shot. We might have finished the match two overs earlier."
The team will join Punjab for the Champions League T20 later this season, going ahead and looking for their very first win in that competition.
