MISAFF 2014 Wraps Up With ‘Meet The Patels’

The 8th Annual Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival wrapped up with the laugh-out-loud Meet The Patels.
This crowd pleaser was a perfect end to the four-day festival. MISAFF, a landmark film fest in Canada and a project of the Canadian Community Arts Initiative, highlights the best new South Asian cinema from around the world.

A red carpet gala opened MISAFF 2014 with the theatrical premiere of Rajat Kapoor's Ankhon Dekhi (Seeing Is Believing). The director travelled from Mumbai to Mississauga to introduce the film.
"I'm here for the first time, but part of the filmmaker’s journey is not only to make films, but also to take them out to people," said Kapoor. "And today I am presenting my film to a new audience. If I can reach out to 5 or 10 people, I think I have done a good job."

Other notable films at the festival included the Canadian premiere of Vara: A Blessing, and documentaries such as Tomorrow We Disappear and The Conflicted Samaritan.

The final day included a special guest appearance from Canadian actor Vinay Virmani from the upcoming film Dr. Cabbie. Virmani discussed his previous work and gave sneak peeks from upcoming projects.

Coming up this summer from MOSAIC is the Rock The Coliseum music festival on August 15 and 16, a free all-ages event that showcases independent Canadian music. Indian National Award winner and Bollywood superstar Rekha Bhardwaj will be the headlining performance on August 16.
