Well that's it folks. Another TD MOSAIC Festival has come and gone. The ninth annual South Asian Heritage Festival of Mississauga brought together music, movies, performances, artists and unforgettable moments.
The event took place in Mississauga's Celebration Square, drawing a large crowd from all over the GTA. The festival featured talent from across comedy, film, music, visual art and dance, with more than 280 artists performing throughout the week, including a number of top international artists from South Asia and the United States.

The visual arts component of the Mosaic Festival has over the past has presented groundbreaking art shows including artists from around the world. Curated by Asma Arshad Mahmood and Anu Vittal, VIRSA is the visual art component of the TD Mosaic Festival 2014. This year, the Canadian Community Arts Initiative exhibited Stroke of Masters, original signed prints by contemporary master painters from the Indian subcontinent.

The festival's two-day finale kicked off on Friday with an opening reception from the mayor of Mississauga, Hazel McCallion. Next was a stellar performance by a group from Chicago called A Cappella: Chai Town, then gorgeous Bollywood dancers showcased by TD Canada Trust Dancers took the stage by storm. The act was followed by Shivani Ballal and Anjuli Deodhare, two Kathak dancers who performed a North Indian classical style of dance.

"The 2014 TD MOSAIC Festival set a new standard of excellence in film, visual arts, literature, music and dance presentations. MOSAIC rocked the City of Mississauga, and we are grateful for the support of our local leaders in attendance including Mississauga-Streetsville MP Brad Butt, Mississauga-Cooksville MP Wladyslaw Lizon and Mayor Hazel McCallion." says MOSAIC founders Asma Mahmood and Arshad Mahmood.
Karsh Kale performs
Karsh Kale created a global fusion music set, featuring Max ZT, Jonita Gandhi, Dale Harrison and Bageshree Vaze on stage. Karsh says, "Having many outlets for my sound has opened up the possibilities of what that sound can actually be for me. I often find myself moving quickly between a live set with my band to composing strings for a film to DJing a dirty dance set to writing an acoustic song within a short period of time. My sound comes from finding inspiration from those moments in-between all of that madness."
Saturday's events started with grand displays of South Asian foods and Bollywood music and fashion.

Saturday evening concluded the exciting weekend with a concert in Celebration Square. Performances included the Shiamak dance team, Bollywood singer Stephanie Braganza and Toronto-based singer Raghav, known for his song 'All I Need Is You' that will be featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming movie Dr. Cabbie.

Indian National Award winner and Bollywood superstar Rekha Bhardwaj was the Saturday night headliner, making her North American debut. "It was overwhelming to see a crowd in the thousands, all just to hear me. It felt like an intimate gathering despite the huge turnout," Bhardwaj said.

"I enjoyed every moment on stage and off stage with lovely volunteers and the sensitive MOSAIC staff. The festival's energy was contagious and I loved being a part of it," she added.
Shiamak Davar's troupe set the stage on fire
MOSAIC has grown to be one of North America's largest South Asian festivals attracting some 60,000 visitors over the course of its events, and if this year's success is any indication, next year promises to be just as incredible.
