When It Comes To Home Decor, What’s Old Is New Again
Or I guess you could say, “Vintage is the new black.” Reclaimed pieces from renovated or abandoned buildings are working their way into today’s modern homes, and they’re a great way to bring the look of the East into your decor.
Whether you choose to go the DIY route with a little elbow grease or instead look to a refinishing company that specializes in reclaimed pieces (like Hammer & Hand Imports, the company that refinished this Indian door), reclaimed furniture, doors, and accents are great focal point for any room. They bring history and character into your surroundings.
If you want to breathe new life into old pieces through touch-ups or refinishing on your own, here are a few things you can try as a weekend afternoon project.
- Paint the piece (consider spray-paint if there are lots of tiny details and crevices).
- Stain the piece to maintain a natural wood look but deepen the hue or change the tone.
- Use sandpaper to distress the existing paint for a look that’s both authentic and well-loved.
- Reupholster any old or worn fabrics or have them professionally reupholstered.
