This time of year, families in North America get time off to recuperate from less-than-friendly weather. Whether you spend Spring Break close to home or travelling somewhere sunny, you have a chance to warm up with your family.
For a trip that won’t break the bank, our nations’ capitals are hosting free family-friendly events. The United States’ National Cherry Blossom Festival will have its opening ceremony March 20 in Washington, DC. Celebrating the anniversary of Japan's gifting cherry blossom trees to the States, world-renowned performers will take the stage at Warner Theatre. Tickets are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
In Canada, Gatineau Park in Ottawa-Gatineau is offering guided weekend snowshoe hikes from now to March 15. Just in case snowshoes aren’t a staple in your wardrobe, they will be provided. These two-hour animal tracking sessions are offered in English and French. Spots are limited, so it's a good idea to make reservations. Also, Indigo and Chapters stores all over Canada will be putting on events every day of March Break. Activity themes include Dr. Seuss, Rainbow Loom, Lego, pirates and mermaids. If you’re itching to go somewhere warmer and are willing to spend some cash, travel companies are offering spring break deals for families.
Transat Holidays’ lowest-priced family trip this March is to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. The Grand Paradise Playa Dorada is a four-star resort with child-friendly features like a kids’ pool, Kiko’s Kids Club and supervised activities for children ages 4 to 12.
Sears Travel’s most budget-friendly trip is to an all-inclusive vacation to Riu Jalisco in Mexico. The four-and-a-half star Signature Vacations resort has a water slide, kids' pool and a kids' club.
