Create A Simple Framed Piece Of Art With A Big Impact
DIY Framed Artwork
A big part of any décor is what you have on the walls of your home. And what better way to bring in your style than to make a statement in the form of a framed piece of art? Even if you don’t consider yourself to be much of a crafter, creating a gold leaf map (like this one of India from All Digitall on Etsy.com) is easy to do and a great afternoon project — even for the beginner DIY-er. Here’s how.
Supplies 
- computer and printer
- scissors
- wrapping tape
- pencil
- sheets of gold leaf
- card stock for the map background
- frame
How-to 
- Search online to find a map of the area you want to frame.
- Print out the map, enlarging it as needed.
- Cut out the printed map along the outermost edge of the region.
- Lay the cut-out map face-up on the card stock, holding it in place with wrapping tape.
- Trace around the map using a pencil and fill in the card stock map with a metal leaf adhesive like Speedball Mona Lisa Metal Leaf Adhesive Size.
- Lay the gold leaf (try Speedball Mona Lisa Gold Simple Leaf) on top of the card stock map, smoothing it in place permanently. (Any leaf outside of the adhesive map area will not transfer and will stay attached to the leaf paper backing.)
- Frame the map and show off your beautiful art!
