DJ A-Slam is a Vancouver-based artist as well as a production team (A-Slam Music Productions), which specializes in fusion hip-hop. DJ A-Slam has been putting out hit hip-hop and R&B tracks with Bhangra and Latin beats.
The name "A-Slam" is a combination of both a play on the beginning of the Arabic greeting "Assalam-u-alaikum" as well as the term "as slam hit". Therefore combining the musical reference with cultural ties.
With such a unique name, DJ A-Slam has had many successful productions. The most exciting project right now is his debut video for his single "Back Down (Party Rock Remix)" (part of his upcoming debut album with the same name) which features Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Champ Gary Mangat. DJ A-Slam has also recently released a remix of Justin Bieber's "All around the World", and another original song called "Go It's Your Birthday". A-Slam's success is both in their original work as well as remixes.
Their first big award in 2007, was an International songwriting award for his personal ballad "For You" (which he wrote for his mother) was a personal high. He also was nominated for a Juno in 2009/10, for an album that they co-produced with R&B singer Inez. In 2011, he was also nominated for a GIMA (Global India Music Academy) award for his album Twist & Shout, where he worked with Stereo Nation's Taz. Making him the first DJ to be nominated for both a GIMA and a Juno.
When asked about his beginnings, DJ A-Slam clearly states that his strong passion for music has got him to where he is now. "I've been playing music since elementary school, so I kept playing different instruments, and started doing vocals. Out of high school, I started producing songs and remixes, and then to get those songs out, I started deejaying. It was kind of a natural progression for me". It's clear that it's DJ A-Slam's love for music, which has prompted him to follow his dreams.Print

Some of the other artists that DJ A-Slam has toured with include Imran Khan, H-Dhabi, Juggy D, and Mumzy Stranger. DJ A-Slam has performed (as well as doing the Torch Run!) at the Vancouver Olympics both in Vancouver and Whistler B.C, and has toured internationally including India where he did the sound for the IPL in Chennai. DJ A-Slam also performed in front of Prince William and Kate Middleton as part of Ottawa's Canada Day Celebrations.
With the success of many of their songs, they hope to inspire others. "For sure you always want to inspire other people. I realize that the biggest DJ's are also music producers and artists, so that's why I continue to focus on producing original tracks and remixes. I hope to tell stories and create emotions. And of course if the songs can internally inspire others, that would be amazing".
A-Slam has been giving the best of their music and you can download their music for free from www.a-slam.com and as well follow them @a_slam on Twitter. You can also check his Facebook page for his videos.
