From March 28 through June 1, Small World Music Society proudly presents eight events embracing the scope of music, new and old, from across the Asian cultural landscape.
The series celebrates Asian and South Asian Heritage Month, bringing together emerging local artists with legendary figures and communities from across the GTA to celebrate their musical heritage.
Building on the success of the past decade, the 2013 Series features eight diverse and exciting presentations beginning with world-renowned masters Zakir Hussain & Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, returning to Toronto as a duet for the first time in 5 years.
At the other end of the career spectrum, the 2nd annual Asian Sound Slam takes place at Revival. A showcase for emerging talent, it includes a career-development workshop and networking dinner.Vishwa Mohan Bhatt’s concert at the Trinity St Paul’s United Church will see the return of the Grammy Award winner, with his innovative slide guitar. Music for Red Snow brings the exquisite sounds of China; sarod maestro Rajeev Taranath will captivate classical music lovers; Next Musicfrom Tokyo showcases the best of new Japanese rock at the Rivoli; Ramneek Singh celebrates Mother's Day with her remarkable voice; and Iran’s Kiosk brings their stinging social commentary couched in a blend of rock, jazz and blues to the Mod Club.

Small World is a celebration of cultural diversity expressed by one of the most potent tools available – music. A charitable organization, its vision is based on sharing cultural experience and ultimately, building bridges between cultures. It is about discovery and ‘opening ears’. In this role, the company has presented close to 400 events since 1997. It has hosted many Canadian debuts by international performers; has given a platform to dozens of developing Canadian artists of diverse backgrounds; and has established an international reputation for presenting innovative, risk-taking programming that uniquely represents Canada and Toronto, providing a space for cross-cultural bridge-building, education and understanding.
