DesiFest 2012 Rocks It Alright!
Every year DesiFEST helps us ring in the start of the summer festival season.
Desi flavours and rhythms resonated from the heart of Toronto on May 26, 2012 when DesiFEST 2012 took over the city. Thousands poured into Yonge-Dundas Square for the free 12-hour concert. The jam-packed line up included some of the hottest, youngest stars powerfully representing their South Asian culture.
Dance troops, singers, food and clothing vendors kept the crowds entertained, fed and happy while act after act took the stage. Musical acts such as The Stranger Family, including Mumzy Stranger, Junai Kaden, Tasha Tah, Ramee and Char Avell along with Parichay, Roach Killa, Triple or Nothing, Sajid Ali Khan, Deep Jandu, Shweta Subram, A-Slam, Anusha Sivalingam, Synsational Jdhee & Reality Raj.
Also grabbing the spotlight were Nick Pandya, Stephanie Braganza, Blitzkrieg, Dav-eh, Dhol n Bhol, Raaga Music Toronto and Urvah Khan. Dance teams including Raang Garba Team, Jadoo Entertainment, Daizy Danzers, Cre8ive Dance Team, Toronto Bhangra All-Star Team kept the beats live.
The day would not be the same without returning MC SatsB, rocking the day and into the night, while DJ K-Square held it down with Bollywood infused tunes. "The crowd was amazing. The artists brought their "A" game and the marketplace was buzzing. We couldn't have asked for a better day!" CEO and Founder of DesiFEST Sathish Bala enthused. Bala also noted that his favourite part of the day is "when the crowd goes from sitting and watching to standing and dancing." To him, it's all about that kind of energy, "The energy level jumps up to another new level and everyone starts to really get into the DesiFEST spirit."
"It was such a great feeling to perform live in front of a large sea of smiling faces in the heart of Toronto – the audience was so lively and receptive." said singer, Anusha Sivalingam who took the DesiFEST stage for the first time.
As for next year Bala is confident that we can look forward to '"more artists (both new and established); more surprises, and of course the best summer kickoff concert in Canada".
