Passionate about acting, Karan Brar has been working extra hard to make his dreams come true, and they have. Just ask any Tween.
Growing up in the spotlight at such a young age, Karan at 13, has always been passionate about acting. You may know him from the Diary of Wimpy Kid films, where he played the role of Chirag Gupta, a funny Indian friend to Greg Huffily. Karan currently plays the role of "Ravi Ross", the 10-year-old Indian adoptee on Disney channel's Jessie.
Karan who was born in Washington, now lives in Los Angeles with his family. He was so passionate about acting that he took acting courses at the age of seven. From that first day of acting school, he began to fall more in love with craft.
He first started auditioning for the film Diary of a Wimpy Kid (20th Century Fox) based on the hit book series that has graced the bookshelves of Tweens across North America. Thousands of kids had auditioned for the part of Gupta, and Karan was in the top six left vying for the spot. Two months later, he moved up to number two in the running. Producers wanted to see him in Vancouver, Canada in order to make their final decision and before you know it, Karan got the role and signed on for three Wimpy Kid films with the first one, Diary of a Wimpy Kid which came out on March 19, 2010 the second installment, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules released about a year later, on March 25, 2011 and the final film to complete the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days is set to be released on August 3, 2012.
After his growing success in the Wimpy Kid series, he got the role of Ravi Ross for Jessie on the Disney Channel. This was huge for him and for Disney, as this was the first time Disney had hired a South Asian child actor for regular spot on a Disney show. Now, Karan is in the second season of Jessie with filming to begin this July and he will also be in the upcoming film version of this TV show.
Even though he spoke in a natural American accent, he still worked with a dialect coach to perfect his Indian accent, to prepare him for future roles. At home you can find him speaking Hindi and Punjabi with his parents, and his 14-year old sister.
This young Tween is busy with many projects on the go, but he sure knows how to manage his time by balancing school, acting as well as his leisure activities.
This young star's proud father added, "As [South Asians] we always think about asking our kids to become doctors, engineers or other high paid professions. Nothing is wrong with that. But support your kid if he or she is good in other things and let them do that".
So here we have Karan as a great example of a young Tween who has been passionate about acting, who worked hard, and pursued his dream to fruition.
