India’s “Michael Jackson” Prabhu Deva will be directing his second venture, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, which is produced by Kumar Taurani and has a well-known star cast – Kumar Taurani’s son Girish Kumar will be making his debut opposite the gorgeous Shruti Hassan. Sonu Sood and evergreen Vinod Khanna will also star in this Hindi remake of the director’s own Telugu mega-blockbuster, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which releases in cinema world wide, this Friday July 19.
According to Truthdrive, Prabhu Deva hopes that this film will break the “Hum Aapke Hai Kaun” record. The film hopes to re-create the magic that the former family entertainer created as Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan won the hearts of millions both in India and internationally. Ramaiya Vastavaiya has a huge star cast: Vinod Khanna, Randhir Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Govind Namdev, Nasser, Paresh Ganatra, Satish Shah and Zakir Hussain. Jacqueline Fernandez also appears in a much hyped item number ‘Jadoo Ki Jhappi’.
Sets Ramaiya Vastavaiya is a musical love story. A young, handsome, and wealthy boy Ram (Girish Kumar) is an NRI who meets and falls in love with innocent, beautiful, and middle class girl Sona (Shruti Hassan). Classes clash and soon enough, his love is put to the test and the boy has to prove his worth.
Son of billionaire couple Siddharth (Randhir Kapoor) and Ashvini (Poonam) spoilt and badly behaved Ram. Sona, on the other hand, is a simple girl who is the apple of the eye of her brother, Raghu (Sonu Sood) who hates the wealthy family who they meet at a mutual friend’s wedding and has worked hard to provide a good life for his younger sister. Snobbish and wealthy Ashvini also holds disdain for the not-so-wealthy families.
25-year-old Girish Kumar told the National, “It’s essentially the love story of a boy and a girl from two very different backgrounds. But it’s not just a romantic film showing the love between a boy and a girl. It also shows the love between brother and sister, father and son.”
Unlike most newcomers, Kumar has decided to do all the stunts on his own without requiring a stunt double. In the introductory scene, the audience will see Kumar make a grand entrance on a surfboard – a stunt, which has never been performed in Bollywood before and his dedication, impressed everyone including the director Prabhu Deva who told Glamsham/Yahoo, "Girish impressed me with his eagerness to do everything the script required. In fact though we suggested a body double for certain action scenes he wanted to do the stunts himself. His dedication and hard work will take him a long way."
Kumar did everything on the sets of the film from learning how to milk cows, riding a bullock cart, and taking method level acting to a whole new level by eating twenty chilies to make sure his expressions were authentic and original. He even took surfing lessons and performed the scene himself.
He jokes, “I didn’t know there was the option to get a stunt double”
The film releases worldwide on July 19, 2013!
