Throwing Coins In Fountains
Visit the smallest water fountain in your local mall, and you will see the bottom shimmering with many coins. The tradition comes from a very old Greek believe that giving money to the Gods who reside in wells would prevent the wells from going dry, and the same favor will be extended to the seas as well. Today people throw it in the fountain hoping for their wishes to come true.
Eating Black Eyed Peas
In Southern United States, people eat black eyed peas on New Year’s Day, a ritual symbolizing looking into the future through the ‘eye’ in the pea. Some also eat collard greens early on in the year, to bring prosperity and financial gains during the year.
Touchwood
Practiced universally, the ritual most likely comes from the prehistoric belief of Gods living inside trees. People back then would touch or ‘knock’ on trees to recognize the existence of the deity and ensuring deity’s favors. The practice is based on the belief that demons all around us, in the air, will try to put an end to any good fortune coming our way, so knocking on wood will ensure they are not successful in their evil doings.
Japan
Another new year’s good look ritual comes from Japan, where soba noodles are served on January 1st, with the belief that the long noodles are symbolic of a long, fruitful and prosperous life.
Throwing Rice At Weddings
Throwing rice over bride, or by the bride over others symbolizes good luck in fertility.

– Colin Farrel has a pair of boxers with shamrocks on them, and he wears them the first day of any movie shoot
– Cameron Diaz wears a lucky necklace to prevent aging from showing its effects.
