Cell Phones Banned For Girls In Indian Village
Unmarried women using cell phones is considered a nuisance to society in a rural Gujarat village.
Digital India aims to help India become more connected. Despite the initiative's progress, Gujarat passed a resolution banning young single women and teenage girls from using cell phones.

This ban all started with an sobriety campaign for men. But the ban gradually took on a focus on women’s lifestyles after community heads observed that unmarried women's cell phone use was as much a nuisance to society as alcoholic men.

The ban in the village is expected to spread to other parts of Gujarat. Unmarried women caught with mobile phones will be fined 2,100 rupees and informers will be rewarded 200 rupees.
