Street Soldiers Set For Red Carpet Premiere At The TIFF Bell Lightbox
Culture & Lifestyle Feb 23, 2016
The upcoming crime drama Street Soldiers will have a lavish premiere at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on February 26th in downtown Toronto.
About Time Productions is proud to announce the first screening of Street Soldiers at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in downtown Toronto on February 26th. This all-Canadian action drama stars Sid Sawant, Nish Raisi, Lionel Boodlal, Steve Kassan, Sachel Metoo, Afroz Khan, Shruti Shah, Jasmine Sawant and Mohsin Sabir. The film was directed by Lily Ahluwalia and Jay Walia.
Street Soldiers is the story of a young, insecure teenager named Sunny whose life gets turned upside-down after an unfortunate turn of events. Tormented by bullies, in self-preservation, Sunny turns to a gang for his protection. The choices he makes along the way dictate the consequences he must face in his life.
Director Lily Ahluwalia’s first independent venture — a film called I Do. Do. I? — was both produced and directed by Ahluwalia. It was screened at numerous film festivals and went on to win the Gold Remi at the Houston International Film Festival for Best Short Romantic Comedy in 2010. Street Soldiers is Ahluwalia's first full-length feature as co-director. "We are extremely excited about the premiere of our film Street Soldiers as it is a culmination of all the hard work put into this project. We have put our hearts and souls into bringing this story to life, and seeing it on the big screen is indeed going to be an emotional moment," said Ahluwalia to ANOKHI.
Jay Walia wrote and co-directed the film I Do. Do. I? He teamed up again with Ahluwalia for Street Soldiers, which he co-directed and wrote the screenplay for. Street Soldiers has been his passion project for over four years. "About Time Productions represents the idea to 'bring about change.' We feel it's about time that we tell our stories as second-generation South Asians. I’m proud to be able to showcase South Asian characters as principal roles in this story, allowing them to show the problems and hardships they face as second-generation Canadians in this society," Walia told ANOKHI.
About Time Productions' vision is to bring realism to the landscape of Canadian film. It's independent company that strives to bring relevant social topics to the forefront of Canadian culture using its films to educate and break down stereotypes. In today's complex world, when differences seem to be pulling people apart, the company aims to show how similarities can bring us together. About Time believes film can help us see that Canada's uniqueness comes from its diversity — and that unites us all.
