Bengal Leader Says University Women Are Shameless And Below Standard
Culture & Lifestyle May 15, 2016
Dilip Ghosh, president of the West Bengal BJP, accused women of Jadavpur University of being “below standard,” “shameless” and “constantly seeking [the] company of male students.”
Ghosh gave this statement on Saturday in answer to allegations of molestation filed against AVBP supporters on May 6 by Jadavpur University students.

A clash between AVBP supporters and Jadavpur University occurred during the screening of Vivek Agnihotri’s film Buddha in a Traffic Jam. Agnihotri was forbidden to screen his movie on campus and was welcomed by students with black flags.
However, with the help of AVBP supporters, Agnihotri managed to screen his movie on campus.
In protest against Agnihotri, students started screening another movie, Muzaffarnager Baaqi Hai, near Agnihotri’s movie. Minutes later, a scuffle broke out between the students and AVBP supporters. Allegedly, four AVBP supporters molested university women during the screenings.
The scuffle ended with students capturing the four men and holding them hostage, saying they would only hand over the men to police. A complaint of molestation was filed against the four men.

Hearing that ABVP men were being held at Jadavpur University, BJP leader Roopa Ganguly went to campus to have her men released. She was, however, denied. Later, the police intervened to have the men released.
Ghosh says these allegations are false and challenges students to fight the party politically. He says, “If they understand politics, then they should fight democratically [and politically]. They are bringing down the level of politics and trying to get sympathy like this.”
He further asked that if the women “fear so much for their modesty, why did they go” near men to protest?
“The allegations of molestation are baseless. The girl students of JU who are levelling those allegations are themselves below standard, shameless, and always in search of an opportunity to be in company of male students,” said Ghosh.

This is not the first time Jadavpur University students have faced such accusations from Ghosh and his party.
Earlier this month, Wing Secretary Subir Halder threatened students participating in a rally. He said the “students have converted this university into a center of disturbance and anti-national activities. We will chop their legs if they dare step out of the university.”
He made this statement after university students had used the slogan “Pakistan Zindabad.” He had also said students should be “thrashed with shoes.”
Titir Chakroborty, a university student, said, “Do we need to learn from the Sangh Parivar about dignity, modesty, and civility? Their actions and statements are continuously reflecting their patriarchal tendencies.”
