India's royalty may have lost their ruling rights in 1947, but the maharajas of the modern day still carry influence and a magnitude of wealth.
King Yaduveer Wadiyar, one of India’s richest royals, has tied the knot with Princess Trishika Kumari Singh, the daughter of the maharaja of Dungarpur in the northern State of Rajasthan.

The ceremony took place at the iconic Mysore Palace and was the first royal wedding in the massive palace in almost 40 years. About 50 traditional rituals were performed during the wedding process, and the nuptials didn't miss a step in the centuries-old traditions.

The secretary of Mysore palace, said, "Maharani Pramoda Devi, who is Yaduveer's adoptive mother, was very particular that the wedding ceremonies took place according to the wedding customs, so we were happy to see our traditions being followed step-by-step. Every puja was in accordance with the scriptures and the tradition of the Mysore royal family. Even the wedding dress worn by Yaduveer has been specially designed by Her Highness Pramoda Devi."

24-year-old Yaduveer was crowned the new Maharaja of Mysore in May last year after the death of his grand-uncle Maharaja Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar.
Srikantadatta Wadiyar, who died in December 2013, didn't have any children and didn't name an heir, but his widow, Pramodadevi Wadiyar, legally adopted Yaduveer (a relative) to ensure an heir to the 600-year-old Wadiyar dynasty.
Countless VIPs, royals, industrialists and politicians attended the wedding, and the reception event is slated to draw an even bigger crowd. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee and Top Opposition Leader Sonia Gandhi are all expected to attend the reception.

The family is said to have assets and property worth about $2 billion USD. The royal couple has more than 1,500 acres of land spread across Mysore, Bangalore, Hassan, Channapatna and other places in the state of Karnataka.
A Mysore palace official declined to comment on the cost of the wedding and said "there was no extravagance."
