Priyanka Chopra Signs Talent Holding Deal With ABC Studios
Known for having a diverse and talented repertoire, Miss World 2000, singer and actress Priyanka Chopra has made headlines again by signing a talent holding deal with ABC Studios. Under this one-year contract, ABC will either be working with Chopra to create and develop a pilot for Chopra or the studio will cast the actress in an existing project already set for fall 2015.
This deal will mark the first U.S. development contract for Chopra, who has worked in more than 45 films and is a widely recognized world talent. She has already made her name internationally after lending her voice to the animated feature film Planes. Her first single, 'In My City,' not only received worldwide recognition but was also selected as the theme song for the 2013 season of the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football. Chopra's cover of Bonnie Raitt’s I Can’t Make You Love Me was part of the nationwide campaign for Beats by Dre. She was also the first woman of Indian descent to be crowned the Guess Girl.
ABC exectuive VP of Casting Keli Lee, who leads the network’s diversity casting program, was in Mumbai recently to sign the gorgeous actress. Lee had earlier had a hand in casting Scandal’s Kerry Washington, Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara and Grey’s Anatomy’s Sandra Oh as part of network’s mission for diversity.
Priyanka Chopra tells The Hollywood Reporter, “To a storyteller, each platform of performance offers its own artistic challenges, and if you have a good story to tell, regardless of the platform, audiences will follow. I've been a longtime fan of ABC shows, and an admirer of how the network has changed the landscape of TV through the diversity of their lead characters. As an intrinsic creative, I am drawn to opportunities that test me in new ways. I’m honored by the opportunity to share my talent with a game-changing network, and I’m very much looking forward to participate in this new endeavor."
Her deal comes after the network has been focusing on diversity this past season with black-led and Asian-American–led series, including shows like Black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat.
The Gunday actress has some serious social media stats under her belt. She has 15.3 million Facebook likes, 8 million Twitter followers and 1.1 million Instagram followers.
