Most popularly known for his leading roles in the movies Titanic, and The Wolf of Wall Street, Leonardo DiCaprio has plans to visit India this month.
The 40-year-old Hollywood actor will be on site in Delhi at the end of October, profiling for a documentary film (title to be announced) on climate change and the underlying issues surrounding air pollution.
The four-day trip is to profile Indian environmentalist, political activist, Padma Shri Award winner, and Director General of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) Sunita Narain.
Established in 1980, The Centre for Science and Environment is a non-profit research and advocacy organization based in New Delhi. The CSE advocates for policy changes and focuses on environmental development issues in India as well as the poor planning and climate shifts affecting India's Sundarbans.
Sunita Narain could not have found anyone more fitting for the role. Leonardo DiCaprio is not only an amazing actor but also a devoted environmentalist who has donated over $1 million to various foundations over the course of his career and is constantly commended for his activism.
According to NDTV, 80 people die in Delhi every day due to air pollution. As ANOKHI Media reported in a recent article, "What Is The Future For India's Air Quality?", Delhi is actually the most polluted city in the world.
Narain's upcoming documentary hopes to "explore the crisis of our time in a way that has never been done before." As DiCaprio says, "global warming is the number-one environmental challenge."
Do you think Sunita Narain and Leonardo DiCaprio are the team India needs to bring awareness to climate change? Let us know in the comment section below!
