While New York Fashion Week F/W 2015 Comes To An End, We Take A Look At What Our Brown Boys Brought To The Runway

February 15, Prabal Gurung

In essence, the Prabal fall woman is someone who evokes sporty minimalism with touches of animal print and fur trimmings. She's not afraid to wear light layers under her heavy-duty winter essentials.

The show began with a palette of neutrals in a mix of layered textures. Wool duffel coats paired with silk slips or lush colour-block furs, and we saw the re-emergence of the Nepalese cashmere sweater. A noticeable theme was asymmetrical-hemmed skirts found among the no-nonsense grey, black and white, and brown ensembles. Thankfully, a cheerful burnt orange and a mix of animal prints emerged, followed by a finale of floor-length tank-style dresses made evening-appropriate and widely wearable with touches of shimmer.

February 17, Naeem Khan

Naeem, famed for his take on the elegant and powerful feminine form, stayed true to the female alter-ego with his fall/winter collection that was not exactly a take on trends, but a celebration of 10 years showcasing in NYC and a thank-you.

What we’ve come to expect from the red-carpet designer is good ole doses of sequins, feather and floral appliqué, but we also saw a new side to the Naeem woman — splashes of Spanish influences. Khan described the collection as "highly textured."

The colour palette on display ranged from black, white, orange and green to the master’s touch of gold and seductive silver. From gowns to pantsuits, high necks to plunging V-necks, Naeem had something on offer for every woman, making this a "bankable" collection.

February 18, Bibhu Mohapatra

While the similarity in all three designers remained in their colour palettes, Bibhu added to the mix a bold royal blue and a mustard yellow that popped from the fall favourite — monochromatic black and whites. He switched it up a notch this season by showcasing more separates and he delighted us with his fresh take on the column dress, fierce colour blocking and fun fur pieces.
