New York’s Famous Free Hot Spots

New York City Free Landmarks: A Bollywood Fave!

New York was once the busiest immigration post in America, where millions migrated from all over the globe from the mid-18^th to mid-19^th centuries. That’s why it's no surprise that Greater New York has the largest Indian-American population in the United States.

Today, New York is one of the most popular and the most visited destinations in the world. It not only attracts tourists but is a also favourite backdrop for Bollywood cinema. This also makes New York one of the most expensive places to visit. But, lucky for us, most of these famous landmarks are open to public and absolutely free!

Brooklyn Bridge

Who doesn’t remember Shah Rukh Khan singing the title song from the movie Kal Ho Naa Ho on the Brooklyn Bride? This historic landmark was built in 1883. As beautiful as the bridge is all lit up at night, I recommend walking the length of the bridge in the afternoon. The view is spectacular! You can see the New York skyline, the Manhattan Bridge and iconic Lady Liberty from the bridge. The best part is that the pedestrian walkway is always open!

Charging Bull

Another famous landmark to see is the Charging Bull in the Financial District. It has been next to Wall Street since 1989, and it represents virility and courage — of America, and especially of New York. We see Preity Zinta waiting for Saif Ali Khan in front of the bull in Kal Ho Naa Ho. Once here, be sure to check out the architecture of the New York Stock Exchange and Federal Hall.

Central Park

Central Park is a national historic landmark covering 6% of Manhattan. It's open daily — 365 days a year — from 6:00 A.M. to 1:00 A.M. and admittance has been free for everyone since 1858.

Even though, just like any park, it has gorgeous trees and green grounds, what makes Central Park special is the carousel, zoo, skating rink, amphitheatre, beautiful ponds and stunning architectural features — bridges, fountains and sculptures. You too can frolic about the Bow Bridge like Preity Zinta did in Kal Ho Naa Ho. Central Park is a must-see in the summer or fall. Plan a picnic in the park and about half a day to roam about this beauty.

Times Square

Any trip to New York would not be complete without a visit to the iconic Times Square — even the subway and police signs use neon lights! This is a great place to shop, eat, catch a Broadway play, visit Madame Tussauds and go to many other attractions. Times Square attracts over 100 million tourists each year — people from all over especially want to visit for New Year's Eve to watch the ball drop! Nicknamed “the crossroads of the world,” Times Square has been featured in many movies, video games and music videos. Who wouldn’t want to bust a move here like Rani Mukherjee and Saif Ali Khan in Ta Ra Rum Pum?
