In Honor Of The Fashion Legend, Oscar De La Renta Who Died At 82

The iconic designer created some of the most memorable fashion moments in history, elevating the standard of award-show ensembles. His feminine silhouettes, dramatic glamour, and incredibly detailed designs earned him ' America's fashion royalty' status in the industry, and he’ll be immortalized through the stunning red-carpet magic he made possible.

The Dominican born designer became famous for his elegant workmanship and glamorous designs, worn by leading celebs and American first ladies. One of the recent De La Renta’s wedding gowns was worn by George Clooney’s wife, Amal Alamuddin.

The famed designer died in his Connecticut home Oct. 20 at the age of 82 losing his battle with cancer. His famous faced friends were in attendance to say their goodbyes.

Fellow designers Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Lauren, Michael Korrs, Donna Karan and Tommy Hilfiger paid their respects, as did photographer Annie Leibovitz, and supermodel Karlie Kloss. The private memorial took place Monday, 3 November on the Upper East Side in New York.

Vogue editor Anna Wintour read the poem She is Gone by David Harkins, adapting it to the memory of her great friend.

De la Renta’s collaborator Jerry Shaw says the designer worked passionately till the end of his life, “That was his life. He loved it. He loved working. He loved people.” Syd Shaw said that the funeral was a reflection of his lifetime achievement, “I think he would be overwhelmed because he had all kinds of people from all parts of his life.”

The name Oscar De la Renta not only is one to be respected, it comes with a hefty price tag. One of his sought after 'made for a woman's silhouette' dress, a gold embroidered drop-waist gown, is listed on his website for $12,690 US with the least expensive priced at $890 US.

His Manhattan store was ranked as the most expensive store in the country last year according to the shopping trade publication. It found that the average shopper spent $3,217US on a single trip to the store.

That's more than twice as much as Prada's New York store, where shoppers spent a mere $1,429 US per visit. Fitting considering the designer is the most sought after red -carpet designer who has made some of the most memorable fashion moments in history. A legacy that will be capsulated in our hearts forever.
