Developments in Literacy (DIL) is a non-profit global agency and registered Canadian charity that is dedicated to providing education to underprivileged children, with a specific focus on girls, by establishing and operating primary and secondary level schools in the rural areas of Pakistan.

In celebration of a successful 8years of educating children and building awareness of its purpose, the DIL Toronto chapter held its annual gala on March 2, 2013 at the grand Hart House, University of Toronto. The 250 patrons in attendance were dazzled by an evening of fine dining, dancing and entertainment.

Included in the celebrations were gifted violinist Grenville Pinto, flamenco dance by The Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company, art exhibition by 'Bullets to Butterflies, and music by DJ Lune of Fuzion Sound and special guest Mr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria (Pakistan Consul General in Toronto).

DIL was started in the USA by Pakistani Americans in 1997 with DIL chapters around the globe, including Toronto and Ottawa and operates and manages 179 schools with over 16,000 students. Of these schools, DIL Canada proudly sponsors 6 communtiy schools in Orangi Town, Khairpur, Karachi and Kingri.
