Saturday October 2 At 12 Noon: Canadian Museum of Hindu Civilization Set To Unveil Significant Monument Dedicated to Canadian Soldiers
Culture & Lifestyle Nov 27, 2012
The Canadian Museum of Hindu Civilization (CMOHC) will unveil a special tribute in the form of a monument dedicated to the fallen Canadian Soldiers.
Aptly called, "Memorial to the Fallen Soldier", this special commemoration to Canadian soldiers who laid their lives for the sake of preserving peace; with a particular reference to those who have sacrificed their lives during peacemaking efforts in Afghanistan, will be officially unveiled onSaturday October 2, 2010 on the grounds of the CMOHC located at 8640 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill Ontario.
This is noted as the first gesture of its kind in North America, where an Indo-Canadian community bands together to create a monument dedicated to the Canadian Troops.
Keeping in mind the significance of October 2nd as it is universally recognized as "Word Peace Day" and the birthday of "The Man Of Peace" Mahatma Gandhi, the CMOHC felt it befitting to unveil this unique and worthy tribute on this unique day.
"Memorial to the Fallen Soldier" is shaped as a maple leaf and carved in black granite and Imperial red granite, sourced from southern India. This 12-foot structure which stands as a symbol of peace and patriotism, will be placed next to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi also located on the site of the CMOHC.
The official unveiling is open to the public and is free of cost.
Date: Saturday October 2, 2010
Time: 11:30 – 3pm. The official unveiling is set to take place at noon.
Location: Canadian Museum of Hindu Civilization, located at 8640 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill Ontario
