There’s so much we experience in life that we don’t always take time to celebrate. Some things have a huge impact, like good health, happiness and love. Others are smaller joys, like a message from a good friend, a day spent positively or a good night’s sleep.Speaking from experience, I know that at times, I have been guilty of this neglect over the years. But as of late, I’ve become conscious of all of the blessings in my life, be they big or small, and have begun to take time out to appreciate them all. As Oprah once said, “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” She’s right!
The more I celebrate my blessings, the more the universe gives to me to celebrate. I’m sure you know what I mean because this is not a revelation by any means. We all know that positivity begets positivity and the same goes for negativity. But how often do we actually take a moment or two to appreciate our gifts?
This issue’s cover personality, actress Mallika Sherawat, is someone who does take out time to recognize the many blessings that life has bestowed on her. What they are and how she celebrates them can be read in my Open Chest interview on page 46, as she shares her views in honest conversation with me. You’ll find out how a small town girl from Haryana, India, became a household name in India before she set her sights on conquering the West, and that too, on her own terms. For those of you who think she is no more than a seductress, you’re in for quite the awakening because you’ll see how truly enlightened she is, how fiercely she believes in what she is doing, and how unapologetic she is about the decisions she has made regarding her career.
This season, as you all know, is all about giving, celebrating and appreciating, which is why we decided to dedicate an entire issue to it. This, our very first Holiday Gift Guide Special Issue, has had our entire editorial department engaged in coming up with ways in which to take the stress out of the gift-giving process, and the result is our Annual Holiday Gift Guide, as well as a plethora of great party ideas. With all the people we need to consider during this time of year and the many celebrations that we will be involved in, either as a host or a guest, I know from my prespective, that this particular issue will permanently reside on the passenger seat of my car for whenever I can steal a few minutes to run to the mall. It'll also be on my desk at work, where I can shop online during my down time.
Finally, as this year comes to an end, I hope, like me, the one gift you give to yourself is a moment or two to celebrate the many blessings in your life—one being YOU!
Until next year, always remember to
Be UNIQUE. Be ANOKHI.
Until Next Time,
